Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!

On February 3rd a piece of history was enshrined at Ronald Reagan Park in northern San Bernardino. A portion of the BerlinWall was erected in remembrance of the forces of evil in the world and of the rewards for relentlessly resisting and opposing that evil. For nearly three-quarters of a century the Soviet Union had presided over the oppression of millions of its own citizens as well as the oppression of millions more elsewhere around the world.

In 1987 President Reagan demanded that the leader of the “Evil Empire” “tear down this wall!” which had been erected to keep the people of East Germany from escaping that oppression. The President’s political advisors urged him not to make the remark for fear that it would be too inflammatory. The President, however, was inflamed by the cause of liberty and simply could not dodge the responsibility incumbent upon the leader of the Free World to fight for that cause. He threw down the gauntlet, issued the challenge, and – beyond anyone’s wildest expectations – four years later the Evil Empire collapsed.

Thank you, Mr. President, for your clear vision and for having the courage to serve it.

The Evil Empire of the Soviet Union may have fallen, but the Empire of Evil persists and grows around the world and in this nation. The fight against it must continue. As we dig in and prepare to storm the walls of this Evil, we would be well-advised to remember something else President Reagan said: “America’s best days are yet to come; our proudest moments are yet to be; our most glorious achievements are just ahead.” Hopefully; but we must remember that there can be no victory nor glory nor even hope without God. If this nation is to have a future worth living, then this nation must return to the living God. If this people is to have any hope of prevailing against the army of Evil that surrounds and even infuses us, then we must swear our allegiance and commit our lives to the Warrior God Who alone can lead us to righteous victory.

Some five hundred years ago Martin Luther penned other words that we would be well-advised to remember:

“A Mighty Fortress is our God – a sword and shield victorious!”

Without God there is no hope. With God hope becomes reality.

Stay the course, Christian Patriots; and just as we thank President Reagan today, your children and grandchildren will thank you tomorrow.

We urge you to come to the February 8th meeting of
the Alliance of Christian Patriots
